Hickenlooper is officially running for President, but there’s a lot more news you might not have heard about yet. Here are your public-law highlights:

  • DU Law hosts debate on executive power. On April 9 at noon, the Federalist Society at DU’s Sturm College of Law will host attorney Chris Jackson and Professor Josh Blackman in a debate on President Trump’s use of executive power. All are welcome to attend.
  • Secretary of State hosts campaign-finance forum. Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold held a campaign-finance forum on March 22. Attorney Chris Jackson spoke on two of the panels.
  • Court fight over Senate rules. A Colorado district judge ruled that Senate Democrats violated the state constitution by having several computers read a 2,000-page bill all at once and at lightning speed. This was just the latest kerfuffle in a series of partisan disputes over the legislative process this session.
  • Polis appoints two new appellate judges. Governor Polis appointed Jaclyn K. C. Brown and Neeti Vasant Pawar to the state’s intermediate appellate court. One of the open seats was left by Judge Laurie Booras, whose resignation was approved by the Colorado Supreme Court last month.
  • Masterpiece Cakeshop lawsuits are over. The State of Colorado settled two legal disputes with Masterpiece Cakeshop and its owner Jack Phillips. The lawsuits, which came after the cake shop won a case before the US Supreme Court, arose out of the business’s refusal to make a custom cake for a transgender woman.
