The National Association of Clean Air Agencies (“NACAA”) transmitted a December 18, 2024, letter to Lee Zeldin.
Mr. Zeldin is President Trump’s nominee for Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”).
NACAA describes itself as:
…the National non-partisan, non-profit association of 156 state and local air pollution control agencies in 40 states, including 117 local jurisdictions, the District of Columbia, and five territories.
NACAA notes by way of introduction that its members:
- Manage an enormous and diverse array of state/local air pollution programs that protect public health and the environment.
- Are dedicated to delivering clean air to the people of the United States, working with EPA, industry, communities, advocates, and others.
- Share the Trump Administration’s goals of a healthy, prosperous America and thriving environment.
The stated purpose of the letter is to introduce the association to the Administrator nominee and the organization’s desire to work collaboratively, which includes key areas in which there are shared objectives.
The letter identifies what it describes as “key themes” that NACAA believe should guide the collaboration between the federal government and the city, county, and state air agencies which include:
- Strengthening the capacity of state and local agencies to carry out their mission of assuring clean air for all.
- Protecting the health of everyone.
- Continuing progress on air quality challenges.
- Building on technical and scientific foundations.
- Advancing essential Clean Air Act programs.
Recommendations provided by NACAA in the letter include:
- Ensuring state and local air agencies have the resources they need to fulfill their responsibilities under the Clean Air Act.
- Collaborative implementation of our shared responsibilities.
- Implementing federal measures for mobile and stationary sources and addressing interstate and international air pollution.
