NYS Board of Elections Approves 2025 Legislative Proposals

The New York State Board of Elections (NYSBOE) approved and released its 2025 list of legislative proposals.  Among the proposed changes to the Election Law requested are:

  • Support for allowing for a health-related special ballot for those experiencing an health emergency on the day of the election or the day prior to the election;
  • Support for requiring Election Inspectors to arrive at poll sites an hour instead of a half-hour before the opening of polls;
  • Support for making primary election day and general election day a non-instruction day for schools;
  • Support for requiring training for new county election commissioners and annual training for all commissioners; and
  • Support for excluding elections for party positions from the provisions that would trigger manual hand recounts.
