What Caused the OneBlood Data Breach?

The OneBlood data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, OneBlood’s filing with the Attorney General of Vermont provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on July 28, 2024, OneBlood detected suspicious activity within its computer network. In response, OneBlood took steps to secure its system, notified law enforcement, and then began an investigation with the help of outside cybersecurity experts.

Through this investigation, OneBlood learned that an unauthorized party accessed its network and copied certain files containing confidential consumer information.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, OneBlood reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. OneBlood completed this process on December 12, 2024 and while the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name and Social Security number.

On January 9, 2025, OneBlood sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
