The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”) issued a June 20th news release stating that it cited Ohio Gratings, Inc. (“OGI”) for alleged violations.

OGI is described as a manufacturer of aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon products and is based in Canton, Ohio.

The company allegedly exposed employees to respiratory, chemical, and other hazards.

A December 2018 inspection is stated to have been undertaken after receipt of a complaint that alleged poor ventilation and a lack of training on chemicals used at the facility. It was allegedly further determined that the company operated a dip tank containing flammable liquid without using:

  • Proper draining
  • Overflow piping
  • Adequate ventilation
  • Fire protection

OSHA states it cited OGI for:

  • Failure to ensure employees used personal protective equipment
  • Inadequate machine guarding
  • Recordkeeping deficiencies
  • Struck-by hazards
  • Exposure of workers to flammable liquids

OSHA proposed penalties of $183,748. It states OGI has contested the citations and penalties. As a result, the case will be heard by an Independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
