Before you start in on the eggnog, keep in mind that the following rules, released just last week, are of importance to certain federal contractors and will be applicable as of January 1, 2017.

Paid Sick Leave for Contractors

The FAR Council issued its interim rule on December 16 implementing the final rule issued by the Department of Labor. Federal contractors will be required to provide one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, for up to 56 hours a year. For more information on this rule, click here. The rule will impact new solicitations and contract modifications issued after January 1, 2017.

Fair Pay, Safe Workplaces Paycheck Transparency

Although the major tenants of the Fair Pay Safe Workplaces rule that required potential contractors to report labor violations when bidding on new contracts was sidelined in October, the paycheck transparency rule survived. The rule requires contractors to provide wage statements to covered workers providing information about their hours worked, overtime hours, and any additions or deductions to their pay. Contractors will also have to notify exempt employees and independent contractors of their classifications. For more information, click here.
