On May 24,
Governor Janet Mills nominated attorney Patrick Scully, who was most recently the Chief Executive Officer of Bernstein Shur, to serve a six-year term on the Maine Public Utilities Commission. For over 36 years, Scully focused on municipal, energy, and utility regulations and has significant experience in the State’s growing renewable energy sector.
“Scully is among Maine’s most knowledgeable energy and utilities attorneys,” said Governor Mills. “His perspective and depth of experience will be a valuable asset to the Maine Public Utilities Commission as it pursues its mission to ensure the delivery of safe, reliable, and affordable utilities services to the people of Maine.”
Scully will be replacing current Commissioner R. Bruce Williamson, an appointee of former Gov. Paul LePage whose term ended in March 2021. This is Governor Mills’ second nomination to the MPUC following her May 2019 nomination of current MPUC Chair, Phil Bartlett. Scully’s nomination is subject to review by the Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Energy, Utilities and Technology, and final confirmation by the Maine State Senate.
