What Caused the Slim CD Data Breach?

The Slim CD data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Slim CD’s filing with the Attorney General of California provides some important information on what led up to the breach. Slim CD also filed notice of the breach with the Attorney General of Maine.

According to these sources, on June 15, 2024, Slim CD identified that there was suspicious activity within its computer network. In response, Slim CD secured its systems and then began working with third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident and any impact on the confidential information in the company’s possession.

Through this investigation, Slim CD confirmed that an unauthorized party had been able to access its IT network between August 17, 2023, and June 15, 2024. Slim CD’s investigation also revealed that the unauthorized party could likely have viewed certain cardholders’ information between June 14, 2024 and June 25, 2024.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Slim CD reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, address, credit card number, and card expiration date. In total, Slim CD estimates that the number of affected people is around 1,693,000.

On September 4, 2024, Slim CD sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
