On January 5, 2024, UKG Inc. filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Maine after discovering that the confidential information of certain consumers was recently shared with an unauthorized party. In this notice, UKG explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information, which includes their names, Social Security numbers, demographic information, salary information, addresses and financial account information. Upon completing its investigation, UKG began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

If you received a data breach notification from UKG Inc., it is essential you understand what is at risk and what you can do about it. As we’ve discussed in previous posts, data breaches involving your Social Security number are especially concerning. This is because, should your SSN get into the wrong hands, it can easily be used to steal your identity. A data breach lawyer can help you learn more about how to protect yourself from becoming a victim of fraud or identity theft, as well as discuss your legal options following the UKG Inc. data breach. What Caused the UKG Inc. Data Breach?

The UKG Inc. data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, UKG’s filing with the Attorney General of Maine provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, UKG and its affiliates provide payroll services to certain employers, including New York City Health + Hospitals.

On October 30, 2023, UKG learned that a file containing confidential information belonging to certain employees was inadvertently shared with other customers.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, UKG Inc. reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, demographic information, salary information, address, and financial account information.

On January 5, 2024, UKG Inc. sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised. UKG is also offering affected individuals 24 months of free credit monitoring through Identity Defense Complete.
