In an era of governance by tweet, Pennsylvania’s Attorney General Josh Shapiro is touting the creation of a “Fair Labor Section” to prosecute employers. His tweet coincided with last week’s 80th anniversary of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

The Attorney General is empowered to pursue civil and criminal penalties against alleged “wage theft.” The initiation of prosecution is inevitably coupled with a media blitz about the employer’s alleged wrongdoing.
