On January 17, 2025, PFS Investments Inc., a broker-dealer affiliated with Primerica (“Primerica”), filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Massachusetts after discovering that information in the company’s control was subject to unauthorized access. In this notice, Primerica explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information, which includes their names, Social Security numbers, financial account information, and driver’s license numbers. Upon completing its investigation, Primerica began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

If you received a data breach notification from PFS Investments Inc. or Primerica, it is essential you understand what is at risk and what you can do about it. What Caused the Primerica Data Breach?

The Primerica data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Primerica’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts provides only limited information on what led up to the breach. Moreover, the company does not appear to have posted a website notice or issued a press release providing additional details.

Based on the available information, we know that PFS Investments experienced a data security incident that affected the personal information of certain customers. While it’s possible that the incident was the result of a cyberattack against PFS Investments, it is also possible that PFS Investments is reporting a third-party data breach that occurred at one of the company’s vendors.

Either way, after learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Primerica reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, financial account information, and driver’s license number.

On January 17, 2025, Primerica sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
