What Caused the PRC-Saltillo Data Breach?

The PRC-Saltillo data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, PRC-Saltillo’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on August 21, 2024, PRC-Saltillo learned of suspicious activity within its computer network. In response, PRC-Saltillo launched an investigation to learn more about the incident and whether any consumer information may have been compromised.

Ultimately, the PRC-Saltillo investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed its computer network between August 13, 2024 and August 21, 2024 and, during this time, copied certain files and folders containing confidential consumer information.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, PRC-Saltillo reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. PRC-Saltillo completed this process on September 3, 2024.

On September 12, 2024, PRC-Saltillo sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. While the data breach letter uploaded to the Massachusetts Attorney General’s site doesn’t mention what type of information was leaked, the personalized data breach letters that were recently sent out should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
