In May 2021, the U.K. government published its draft Online Safety Bill. The bill evidences the U.K.'s attempt to establish itself as a global leader in regulating the internet, with the ambitious goal of making the U.K. "the safest place in the world to be online."
The bill has since been scrutinized by a U.K. parliamentary joint committee, which published its report in December 2021, recommending changes to strengthen the draft legislation.
