What Caused the Qualtrics Data Breach?

The Qualtrics data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Qualtrics’s filing with the Attorney General of Montana provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on May 7, 2024, Qualtrics learned that an unauthorized party was able to use compromised credentials to access the Qualtrics customer account for Blue Cross NC.

In response, Qualtrics contained the incident, secured its systems, notified law enforcement, and then launched an investigation. After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Qualtrics reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. Qualtrics completed this process on May 23, 2024. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, email address, demographic information, and health insurance information.

On July 19, 2024, Qualtrics sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
