On November 13, 2023, Recology Inc. confirmed reports that the company experienced a cyberattack. Currently, Recology is in the process of conducting its investigation into the incident. However, at this point, the possibility of a data breach cannot be ruled out. If, after completing its investigation, Recology determines that confidential consumer or employee data was leaked as a result of the cybersecurity incident, the company will be required to send all victims a data breach letter explaining the impact and what data types were compromised.

If you receive a data breach notification from Recology Inc., it is essential you understand what is at risk and what you can do about it. While it’s too early to tell whether there was a Recology data breach, it remains a possibility based on confirmed reports of a cyberattack. A data breach lawyer can help you learn more about how to protect yourself from becoming a victim of fraud or identity theft, as well as discuss your legal options following a possible Recology data breach. More Information About the Recology Cyberattack

The Recology cyberattack was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, several news sources have reported on the incident, providing some information on what happened. According to these sources, on Monday, November 13, 2023, a spokesperson for Recology explained that the company had “experienced a cybersecurity incident that has caused some systems and applications to be temporarily unavailable.”

The spokesperson did not have too much more information to convey, explaining that Recology is working to bring all systems back online while it investigates the incident. At this point, Recology has not confirmed what caused the incident or whether any consumer or employee data was compromised as a result.

Aside from the spokesperson’s confirmation of the attack, three separate employees of the company told one journalist that the company had been “hacked” a week earlier, which impacted the company’s operations throughout the West Coast.

Recology only confirmed the breach on November 13, 2023, and the company is still in the midst of its investigation into its impact. However, should Recology confirm that any personal data belonging to consumers or employees was leaked, it will be required to send out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. If that’s the case, the letters will be addressed to individual victims and will provide a list of what information was compromised.
