On September 4, 2024, RN Enterprises, LLC d/b/a Red Nucleus (“Red Nucleus”) filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Massachusetts after discovering that a recent cyber incident resulted in the company’s computer network being compromised. In this notice, Red Nucleus explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information. Upon completing its investigation, Red Nucleus began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

What Caused the Red Nucleus Data Breach?

The Red Nucleus data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Red Nucleus’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts provides only limited information on what led up to the breach, and the company has not yet issued a press release providing additional details about the incident.

Based on the filing with the Massachusetts Attorney General, we know that the incident stemmed from a “cyber incident” that presumably targeted Red Nucleus’ IT network. After securing its systems and launching an investigation to learn more about the incident and its causes, Red Nucleus determined that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party accessing confidential information that had been provided to the company.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Red Nucleus reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. Unfortunately, the Red Nucleus data breach letter that is available on the Massachusetts Attorney General’s website doesn’t specify what data types were leaked. However, on September 4, 2024, Red Nucleus sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
