BOEM’s final environmental review finds no significant impacts for offshore wind leases in Humboldt Bay

The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management last Thursday released the final draft of its environmental assessment broadly examining how offshore wind activities in the roughly 207-square-mile Humboldt Wind Energy Area off the coast of Humboldt Bay would affect the surroundings. That review found developing offshore wind will have no significant impact on the environment. The lease sales for offshore wind projects off Humboldt Bay and Morro Bay in Central California are expected to take place in September, and the completion of the environmental assessment is a major milestone.
Digital Realty signs PPAs for 158 MW of solar power in California and Georgia

Digital Realty is contracting for 158 MW of new solar power in California and Georgia. The contracts include a 12-year agreement to support the development of a new 130 MW utility-scale solar project in Kern County. The project, developed by Terra-Gen as part of its Edwards Sanborn Solar Storage energy project, is expected to be completed later this year.
Amazon signs 450 MW solar PPA with AES Corp for California operations

Amazon has signed two power purchase agreements with AES Corporation to procure solar energy to power its California operations. As part of the agreements, AES will deliver renewable energy in the California Independent System Operator market and source it from a combined 450 MW of solar and 225 MW, 4-hour duration battery energy storage from its portfolio of projects.

What is touted to be the world’s largest industrial green hydrogen production and storage facility received a conditional commitment of more than $504 million in federal funding, a big development for the Advanced Clean Energy Storage project. The Intermountain Power Plant near Delta is transitioning from coal at its two 900 MW units to natural gas and hydrogen. By 2045, it will run purely on hydrogen.
Iberdrola building 1.8 GW of renewables in U.S.

Iberdrola SA said that it has some 1,800 MW of renewable energy projects under construction in the U.S., which are being delivered by its majority-owned subsidiary Avangrid Inc. Iberdrola expects to see 600 MW of these wind and solar projects come online before the end of the year, including projects in Oregon and Washington.
