On May 12, 2023, Renewal by Andersen (“Renewal”) filed a notice of data breach with the Office of the Maine Attorney General after confirming that a security incident involving the company’s IT network resulted in an unauthorized party gaining access to confidential consumer data. News of the Renewal by Andersen data breach is still fresh; however, what we know at this point comes from the company’s filing with the Office of the Maine Attorney General. According to this source, on January 19, 2023, Renewal received notification of a suspected data security incident. In response, Renewal launched an investigation with the help of outside cybersecurity specialists.

The Renewal investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access the company’s computer system between January 2018 and January 19, 2023, and that there was unauthorized access to that system earlier in January 2023. Some of the files that were accessible to the unauthorized party contained confidential consumer data.

Upon discovering that sensitive consumer data was made available to an unauthorized party, Renewal by Andersen began to review the affected files to determine what information was compromised and which consumers were impacted. Renewal completed this process on April 17, 2023. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, address, Social Security number, banking account and routing number, driver’s license number, and credit card number.

On May 12, 2023, Renewal by Andersen sent out data breach letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the recent data security incident.
