  • Twenty-three Republican AGs submitted a comment letter to HHS and Department of Agriculture officials opposing aspects of the Scientific Report of the 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee; the Dietary Guidelines are used to set standards for federal nutrition programs and inform FDA nutrition policy.
  • In the letter, the AGs argue that the Committee’s recommendation to increase intake of plant-based protein and reduce intake of red and processed meats overlooked the benefits of animal-based protein, and wrongly considered health equity factors, the latter of which is arbitrary and capricious under the Administrative Procedure Act.
  • The AGs urge the Secretaries of HHS and Agriculture to reject the recommendation.
