Recently, reports emerged of a cyberattack against Schneider Electric. While Schneider Electric has confirmed that it was the target of a cyberattack, the company has not yet confirmed whether any confidential consumer or employee data was compromised. However, if Schneider Electric determines that an unauthorized party was able to access confidential information, it will be required to send data breach notification letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data incident.
If you receive a data breach notification from Schneider Electric, it is essential you understand what is at risk and what you can do about it. A data breach lawyer can help you learn more about how to protect yourself from becoming a victim of fraud or identity theft, as well as discuss your legal options following a possible Schneider Electric data breach. Was There a Schneider Electric Data Breach?
Schneider Electric only recently confirmed that the company was the victim of an apparent cyberattack; thus, it is too soon to determine if there was a Schneider Electric data breach. However, various news sources have reported on the incident.
According to these sources, back in November, hackers claimed to have acquired over 40GB of compressed data containing “compromised critical data, including projects, issues, and plugins, along with over 400,000 rows of user data.” In response, Schneider Electric explained that it was “investigating a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to one of our internal project execution tracking platforms.
Then, on December 29th, the hackers who claimed responsibility for the attack published a set of allegedly stolen data on their data web leak site, claiming that Schneider Electric refused to pay a ransom.
Since then, Schneider Electric does not appear to have issued any statements on the cyberattack and purported data breach.
If Schneider Electric confirms that employee or consumer information was leaked as a result of this incident, it will be required to send out data breach letters to anyone whose information was leaked. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
