The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that Mark T. Uyeda has been appointed Acting Chair. The Acting Chair has served as an SEC Commissioner since June 2022 and brings extensive experience to the role, having held various leadership positions within the SEC, the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the U.S. Department of Labor. In this new role, the Acting Chair launched a Crypto Task Force (the “Task Force”) to develop a comprehensive regulatory framework for cryptocurrency. The Task Force will be led by Commissioner Hester Peirce.
The Task Force’s objectives include defining clear regulatory boundaries, establishing practical registration pathways, creating disclosure frameworks, and optimizing the use of enforcement resources. It will work within the statutory framework provided by Congress while coordinating efforts with federal agencies, state regulators, and international counterparts. In a statement, Commissioner Peirce noted that this undertaking “will succeed only if the Task Force has input from a wide range of investors, industry participants, academics, and other interested parties.” To that end, the SEC has invited public input on this initiative via e-mail at Crypto@sec.gov.
