Yesterday, Commissioner Elad Roisman submitted his resignation from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), indicating an intent to step down by end of January 2022. In his statement, he did not discuss plans for his future, but he did express gratitude for his time as Commissioner and Acting Chairman of the agency, stating that it has been the “greatest privilege of [his] professional life.” Commissioner Roisman has been with the SEC since September 2018.
There have been many various dissenting statements from Commissioner Roisman, including his criticism of Chair Gary Gensler’s latest policy agenda alongside Commissioner Hester Peirce. A November statement from the two Commissioners for instance, reacting to the Staff Legal Bulletin No. 14L on shareholder proposals, expresses their views that the bulletin “furthers the recent trend of erasing previous Commissioners’ and staffs’ work… replacing it with the current Commission’s flavor-of-the-day regulatory approach.”
Even with one fewer Commissioner, Chair Gensler’s priorities and agenda are not likely to change.
