On December 18, 2024, Securitas Security Services USA, Inc. (“Securitas”) filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Massachusetts after discovering that an unauthorized party was able to access information that had been entrusted to the company. In this notice, Securitas explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information, which includes their names, Social Security numbers and medical record information. Upon completing its investigation, Securitas began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

What Caused the Securitas Data Breach?

The Securitas data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Securitas’s filing with the Attorney General of Massachusetts provides only limited information on what led up to the breach, and the company does not appear to have posted a website notice or issued a press release providing additional information.

However, based on the available information, we know that Securitas experienced a cybersecurity incident involving its computer network. In response, Securitas conducted a thorough investigation and implemented additional safeguards. However, ultimately, Securitas’ investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access certain confidential information in the company’s possession.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Securitas reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number and medical record information.

On December 18, 2024, Securitas sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
