According to phillyburbs.com, former administrator and hockey manager, Ryan Abramson, was terminated from employment at Holy Ghost Preparatory after an internal investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct dating back 20 years. Holy Ghost Prep is a private Catholic boy’s high school in Bensalem, PA.
The school is cooperating with the Middletown Township police and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, which have opened a criminal investigation into the matter, though no criminal charges have been filed yet.
How did this happen?
Sexual assault can happen to any person, and it can happen anywhere. This does not exclude high schools. In fact, circumstances of high schools can facilitate a longstanding history of sexual assault.
High school students are in a vulnerable position, by being minors subject to the discipline and authority of all school faculty. Faculty members might have the ability and opportunity to act with misconduct, because no one may suspect, or want to believe a faculty member is the person abusing students. That faculty member’s conduct often goes unnoticed or is perceived as being helpful.
