SkyPan International, Inc. (SkyPan), based in Chicago, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) agreed upon a comprehensive settlement to resolve the enforcement cases where the FAA alleged that the SkyPan operated unmanned aircraft systems (UAS or drones) in airspace over New York City and Chicago in violation of airspace regulations and operating rules. SkyPan will pay a $200,000 civil penalty, an additional $150,000 if SkyPan violates the FAA regulations next year, and $150,000 more if SkyPan fails to comply with the other terms of the settlement agreement.

SkyPan must also work with the FAA to release three public service announcements over the next year to help support the FAAs public outreach campaign encouraging drone operators to learn and comply with FAA UAS regulations.

This agreement settles enforcement cases that involved a $1.9 million civil penalty that the FAA proposed against SkyPan in October 2015.
