What Caused the Smart ERP Solutions Data Breach?
The Smart ERP Solutions data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, SmartERP’s filing with the Attorney General of Vermont provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on July 13, 2024, SmartERP experienced a cybersecurity incident that impacted parts of the company’s computer network.
In response, SmartERP launched an investigation with the help of outside cybersecurity experts. Through its investigation, on February 11, 2025, SmartERP confirmed that the unauthorized party responsible for the cyberattack gained access to certain files on its network between July 3, 2024 and July 13, 2024. Subsequent investigation revealed that some of the files that were accessible to the unauthorized party contained confidential consumer information.
After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Smart ERP Solutions reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the data breach letter on the Vermont Attorney General’s website does not mention what type of information was compromised, on March 11, 2025, Smart ERP Solutions sent out personalized data breach letters to all victims of the breach. These personalized letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
