What Caused the Specialty Networks Data Breach?

The Specialty Networks data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Specialty Networks’ August 15, 2024 press release provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on December 18, 2023, Specialty Networks detected suspicious activity within its computer network. In response, Specialty Network secured its systems and then enlisted the help of digital forensic specialists to investigate the incident.

Through this investigation, Specialty Network learned that an unauthorized actor accessed and acquired certain data stored within its systems on December 11, 2023. On May 31, 2024, Specialty Networks learned that some of the files that were accessed and acquired by the unauthorized party contained confidential consumer information.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Specialty Networks reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. Specialty Networks recently completed this process. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, date of birth, driver's license number, Social Security number, medical record number, treatment and condition information, diagnoses, medications, and health insurance information.

On June 12, 2024, Specialty Networks began notifying its corporate clients of the incident, which include Prime Imaging, Diagnostic Radiology Consultants, P.A., Allied Mobile, and Videre. Then, beginning around June 24, 2024, Specialty Networks began sending out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
