The Michigan Pipeline Safety Advisory Board adopted a resolution seeking temporary closure of Enbridge Line 5 pipeline.
I recently posted http://michigancondemnationblog.com/home/2017/11/27/movement-on-controversial-line-5-pipeline.html about a deal made by Governor Snyder and Enbridge.
Recently, the Michigan Pipeline Safety Advisory Board adopted a resolution seeking temporary closure of the Line 5 pipeline. A majority of the board members abstained from the vote, potentially for political reasons, but allowed the resolution to pass.
Critics of the Line 5 pipeline include the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians tribe, which is threatening a lawsuit due to alleged treaty violation, environmentalists, and the Michigan State Police who would be the first responders to any pipeline incident.
The more these pipeline controversies are publicized, the more reluctant people will become to purchase property with pipelines on them. This is a factor that must be considered when evaluating just compensation for new pipeline projects.
