MAZ Encryption Technologies LLC v. Blackberry Corporation, C.A. No. 13-304 – LPS, August 25, 2016.

Stark, C. J. Plaintiff’s motion for summary judgment of infringement is denied. Defendant’s motion for summary judgment of non-infringement is denied.  Oral argument took place on August 17, 2016.

The disputed technology relates to a method of transparent encryption and decryption for an electronic document management system.  Defendant’s basis for non-infringement is wrong in that it conflicts with the court’s claim construction. With respect to two other defenses raised, there are disputed issues of material fact which preclude summary judgment. With respect to plaintiff’s motion, genuine disputes of material fact preclude granting summary judgment of direct and indirect infringement.
