What Caused the TDX Construction Data Breach?

The TDX Construction data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, TDX’s filing with the Attorney General of Maine provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on May 6, 2024, TDX detected unusual activity within its computer network. In response, TDX took steps to mitigate the incident and then consulted with third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident. TDX also informed law enforcement of the attack.

Through its investigation, TDX learned that an unauthorized party was able to access portions of the company’s computer system that contained confidential information belonging to certain individuals.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, TDX Construction reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. TDX completed this process on September 18, 2024.

On October 3, 2024, TDX Construction sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. While the publicly available data breach letter on the Maine Attorney General’s site doesn’t mention what data types were leaked, the personalized data breach letters that were sent to individual victims should provide a list of what information was compromised.
