On August 27, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced an update to the fees telemarketers must pay to access phone numbers on the National Do Not Call (DNC) Registry for the fiscal year 2025. The revised fees will take effect on October 1, 2024.

Key Changes in the Fee Structure:

  • Single Area Code Access: The cost for telemarketers to access a single area code in the registry will increase to $80, up from $78 in FY 2024.
  • Maximum Charge: The maximum charge for accessing all area codes nationwide will rise to $22,038, an increase from $21,402 in FY 2024.
  • Half-Year Access: The fee for accessing an additional area code for a half year will increase to $40, up from $39 in FY 2024.

These changes are pursuant to the Do-Not-Call Registry Fee Extension Act of 2007, which mandates periodic adjustments based on the Consumer Price Index. The FTC’s decision to update the fees was unanimously approved by a 5-0 Commission vote.
