THE EU PLANS TO START REVIEWING FOREIGN INVESTMENTS: A MODEST AMBITION?
The past months have witnessed intense discussions at European and national level on the need to review foreign investment flows in sensitive sectors. At the initiative of President Emmanuel Macron of France, the European Council addressed the issue of reciprocity in public procurement and investment on 22 June. On 12 July, Germany widened the scope of review of the acquisition of German companies by non-EU/EFTA nationals. On 28 July, France, Germany and Italy issued a paper on a common approach to foreign investment control.
