On May 1, 2023, the Heritage Group filed a notice of data breach with the Office of the Maine Attorney General after an unauthorized party gained access to the company’s computer network and was able to access confidential information belonging to certain current and former employees and their dependents. Based on the company’s official filing, the incident resulted in an unauthorized party gaining access to consumers’ first names, last names, addresses, and Social Security numbers. After confirming that consumer data was leaked, Heritage began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals who were impacted by the recent data security incident.

News of the Heritage Group data breach is still fresh; however, what we know at this point comes from the company’s filing with the Maine Attorney General. According to this source, in January 2023, the Heritage Group detected and stopped a network security incident involving an unauthorized party gaining access to the company’s IT network. After identifying the threat, the Heritage Group launched an investigation into the incident in hopes of determining whether any confidential employee data was leaked as a result.

The investigation confirmed that the unauthorized party had access to certain files containing highly sensitive information relating to current and former employees as well as their dependents.

Upon discovering that sensitive employee data was made available to an unauthorized party, The Heritage Group began to review the affected files to determine what information was compromised and which employees were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your first name, last name, address, and Social Security number.

On May 1, 2023, The Heritage Group sent out data breach letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the recent data security incident.
