.STORAGE to be relaunched
The XYZ.com Registry announced earlier this month that it had acquired .STORAGE, its tenth new generic Top Level Domain (gTLD). XYZ.com already operates .XYZ, the largest new gTLD with just under 6 million registered domain names (which represents 22% of all registered new gTLDs), and eight others which it acquired afterwards: .COLLEGE, .RENT, .SECURITY, .PROTECTION, .THEATRE, as well as .CAR, .CARS, and .AUTO through a joint venture with Uniregistry. The .STORAGE new gTLD was originally launched in July 2016 by Extra Space Storage LLC and was restricted to entities connected to the storage industry.
New gTLD .ECO has been launched
On 25 April 2017 the new gTLD .ECO launched its General Availability phase with the support of various environment organisations, including the WWF (World Wildlife Fund), Conservation International and United Nations Global Compact. DOT ECO, the .ECO domain name Registry, is promoting .ECO as the “new dedicated environmental domain extension for people and brands committed to positive change for the planet”. DOT ECO, along with its collaborators, believe that by registering a .ECO web address, brands will in turn send a positive message to consumers about their commitment to environmental responsibility and transparency.
.VIP becomes important
The extension .VIP was opened up to General Availability at the stroke of midnight, China time, on 18 May 2017. Since then, the extension has quickly become one of the most popular of all the new generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs). The extension .VIP currently lies in 6th place in the new gTLD popularity stakes with over 800,000 registrations, just behind .CLUB, .WIN, .LOAN, .TOP, with .XYZ being the outright leader.
