Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.
HEADLINES
- On Capitol Hill, both parties are strategizing ahead of next Friday’s deadline to extend government funding, while also discussing a path forward on funding for Ukraine and Israel.
- Republican presidential hopefuls will take the stage Wednesday in Miami for their third primary debate, after former President Donald Trump takes the witness stand in New York this morning in his civil fraud trial.
- Voters will go to the polls in several states tomorrow for state and local elections.
HOUSE
- The House will be in session today through Thursday, continuing to take up individual appropriations bills.
- The House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday will hold a hearing on U.S. support for Israel.
- Also Wednesday, the Small Business Committee will hold a hearing on Energy Department regulations.

SENATE
- The Senate will be in session today through Thursday, voting on Dr. Monica Bertagnolli’s nomination to lead the National Institutes of Health, plus more of Biden’s judicial nominees.
- The Appropriations Committee on Wednesday will review the administration’s domestic supplemental funding request with Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
- Also Wednesday, the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property will hold a hearing on reforming the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

WHITE HOUSE
- On his way back from Delaware, Biden will promote his economic agenda and infrastructure investment.
- Biden on Thursday will travel to Chicago to promote his economic agenda.
- Saturday, he will commemorate Veterans Day at the White House and Arlington National Cemetery.
