The American Chemistry Council (“ACC”) submitted a June 24th response to the United States Department of Energy’s (“DOE”) Request For Information (“RFI”) titled:

Transforming Energy: Strategies for Decarbonization.

See DE-FOA-0003363.

ACC describes its mission as to advocate for the people, policy, and products of chemistry that make the United States the global leader in innovation and manufacturing. The organization indicates it represents more than 190 companies engaged in the business of chemistry.

DOE’s stated purpose for the RFI was to:

…gain strategic and technical feedback on decarbonizing America’s industrial sector and positioning the United States as a leader in the global clean energy economy.

The RFI is stated to be a component of what DOE describes as a “vision study” titled:

Pathways for U.S. Industrial Transformations: Unlocking American Innovation.

This study’s purpose is described as the identification of cost-effective and industry-specific strategy pathways to achieve a thriving U.S. industrial sector with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The categories of questions to which ACC responds (which themselves include subquestions) are:

  • Industrial decarbonization, challenges, barriers, and cross-cutting strategies.
  • Framework for industrial decarbonization pathways.
  • Impacts and evaluation criteria for industrial decarbonization pathways.
  • Net-zero emissions decarbonization pathways for special industrial subsectors, and chemical questions.

A copy of the ACC response to the RFI can be downloaded here.
