What Caused the True World Group Data Breach?

The True World Group data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, True World’s filing with the Attorney General of Montana provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on August 23, 2024, True World detected suspicious activity within its computer network. In response, True World’s IT team secured its systems, updated its protocols, and then launched an investigation to learn more about what happened and what, if any, information was compromised.

Through this investigation, True World confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access and copy certain files from its IT network. It was subsequently determined that some of these files contained confidential information belonging to current and former employees.

After learning that sensitive employee data was accessible to an unauthorized party, True World Group reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which employees were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, the publicly available data breach letter posted on the Montana Attorney General’s site doesn’t specifically list what type of information was compromised.

However, on October 3, 2024, True World Group sent out personalized data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
