What Caused the Group 1001 Breach?

However, Group 1001’s Resources’ filing with the Attorney General of Maine provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on February 9, 2023, Group 1001 was alerted to a possible ransomware attack. In response, Group 1001 isolated and secured its system and then launched an investigation into the incident.

The Group 1001 investigation confirmed that hackers were able to access and remove certain files from the company’s computer network. It was later determined that some of these files contained confidential information related to certain employees as well as customers of First Security Benefit Life Insurance and Annuity Company.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Group 1001 reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted.
