U.S. Corps of Engineers Permit Application/Approval Process: Vicksburg District Announces March 28th Outreach Event for Consultants/Applicants

The Vicksburg, Mississippi District Regulatory Branch of the United States Corps of Engineers (“Corps”) announced what they describe as an “outreach event” for consultants and applicants.

The purpose of the outreach event is stated to enable consultants and applicants to “more efficiently navigate the application and approval process.”

The event presumably addresses permits issued by the Corps such as those involving Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act and 404 of the Clean Water Act.

The Vicksburg District is one of the Corps largest in both size and activities. It encompasses parts of three states which include Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. It describes itself as responsible for more than 800 miles of commercially navigable streams and rivers including the Ouachita-Black system, the Pearl, the Red, and the Yazoo rivers.

Presentations at the Vicksburg event are stated to be intended for individuals or groups who regularly interact with the Vicksburg District Regulatory Branch. Possible topics are stated to include:

  • Tips for successful JD submission
  • Tips for a complete Pre-Construction Notification and Permit Application
  • Updates on the Nationwide Permit Program
  • 404/408 Synchronization
  • Alternatives analysis
  • Permitee-Responsible Mitigation Plan – Key Components

  • Mitigation Banking

The event will be held on March 28th from 9:00 to 11:00 at the Vicksburg District.
