The United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) announced in a September 7th news release that William Wehrum has been nominated by the Trump Administration to serve as Assistant Administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation (“OAR”).
OAR describes its responsibilities as development of national programs, policies, and regulations for controlling air pollution and radiation exposure.
OAR is responsible for administering the:

Clean Air Act
-
Atomic Energy Act
-
Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Land Withdrawal Act
Mr. Wehrum currently serves as partner and head of the Administrative Law Group at the law firm of Hunton & Williams LLP. His law practice is described as focused on air quality issues. Prior to joining the law firm, Mr. Wehrum served for two years as acting Assistant Administrative for OAR.
Mr. Wehrum received a J.D. from Widener University School of Law and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University.
EPA’s OAR has relevance to the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality as it has been delegated almost every Clean Air Act program. Likewise, the Arkansas Department of Health provides regulatory oversight over various aspects of radioactive material issues in the state.
