In a statement issued last week, the Biden administration announced the end of the COVID-19 vaccine requirement for international air travelers. The requirement will officially lift at the end of the day on May 11, 2023, meaning that any non-U.S. citizen nonimmigrant (including L-1, H-1B foreign nationals) traveling to the U.S. by air on or after May 12, 2023 should no longer need to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to board a flight to the United States.
Prior to this change, the only way international air travelers could board flights to the U.S. without first providing COVID-19 vaccination proof was by meeting an exception under the October 2021 Presidential Proclamation and CDC’s Amended Order.
As of May 9, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has not yet updated its website to reflect this announcement, although the change is reflected in the White House statement and U.S. Department of State news. NJL will continue to closely monitor the announcement.
