On May 10, 2023, Uintah Basin Healthcare (“UBH”) posted notice of a data breach on its website after learning that confidential patient information was accessible to an unauthorized party following a cyberattack. Based on the company’s official filing, the incident resulted in an unauthorized party gaining access to consumers’ names, dates of birth, addresses, Social Security numbers, health insurance information and protected health information. News of the Uintah Basin Healthcare data breach is still fresh; however, what we know at this point comes from the company’s “Notice of Data incident” posted on its website. According to this source, on November 7, 2022, UBH detected suspicious activity within its computer network. In response, UBH secured its systems and then enlisted the help of third-party data security specialists to investigate the incident.

The UBH investigation determined that the suspicious activity was due to an unauthorized party having gained access to the company’s computer network. Further investigation revealed that the unauthorized party was able to access patient data related to certain visits between March 2012 and November 2022.

Upon discovering that sensitive consumer data was made available to an unauthorized party, Uintah Basin Healthcare began to review the affected files to determine what information was compromised and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, date of birth, address, Social Security number, health insurance information and protected health information.

On May 10, 2023, Uintah Basin Healthcare sent out data breach letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the recent data security incident.
