Knobbe MartensA federal court in Wisconsin recently awarded Ultratec, Inc. and Captel, Inc. more than $5.4 million in damages, based on a patent infringement claim brought against Sorenson Communications and CaptionCalls.  The patent is directed toward technology to improve text captions for telephone conversations for hearing impaired persons.  The trial court had previously determined that this patent was invalid, but that decision was reversed on appeal.   In addition to the damages award, the trial court also awarded Ultratec more than $700,000 in supplemental damages and interest.

This case is Ultratec, Inc. v. Sorenson Communications, Inc., Case No. 3-14-cv-00066 (W.D.Wi.).
