VeriSource Services Announces Data Breach Affecting 55k Clients’ Employees

On August 21, 2024, VeriSource Services, Inc. (“VSI”) filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Texas after discovering that an unauthorized party was able to access information in the company’s possession. In this notice, VeriSource explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access sensitive information belonging to employees and dependents of companies that use VSI’s services, which includes their names, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers. Upon completing its investigation, VeriSource began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

What Caused the VeriSource Services Data Breach?

The VeriSource Services data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, VeriSource’s filing with the Attorney General of Texas provides some important information on what led up to the breach. VeriSource also posted a notice on its homepage discussing the incident.

According to these sources, on February 28, 2024, VSI detected unusual activity within its computer network. In response, VSI secured its system and then launched an investigation with the help of outside cybersecurity experts. VSI also notified the FBI.

Through its investigation, VeriSource concluded that certain personal information belonging to employees and dependents of employees who work for organizations using VSI’s services was acquired without authorization on or about February 27, 2024.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, VeriSource Services reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. VeriSOurce completed this process on August 12, 2024. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, date of birth, and Social Security number.

On August 21, 2024, VeriSource Services sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
