On January 10, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares detailed his 2023 General Assembly session priorities, supporting law enforcement, victim prioritization, and community safety. AG Miyares plans to accomplish his goals — “to crack down on organized retail crime, punish drug dealers peddling lethal fentanyl, support members of the Jewish Community, and protect Virginia consumers from policies designed for Californians” — through bipartisan collaboration with the General Assembly.
Former Governor George Allen praised AG Miyares’ “positive” agenda, calling it “one of the most robust, meaningful and public safety focused legislative agendas of an Attorney General in recent history.”
In addition to the above, AG Miyares plans to support various biennial budget amendments proposed by Governor Glenn Youngkin, including establishing a Mass Violence Care Fund ($10 million), a Witness Protection Program ($2.5 million), and “Right Help, Right Now” to address mental and behavioral health (over $230 million). He also plans to back the governor’s Bold Blue Line Initiative to support and recruit law enforcement ($30 million) and for Operation Ceasefire’s funding increase ($20 million).
Why This Matters
AG Miyares’ “common sense initiatives” will help improve safety, education, and accountability to bring positive results for Virginians.
