On October 24, 2022, Vivendi Ticketing US, LLC filed an official notice of a data breach with the Attorney General of Texas after consumer information entrusted to the company was accessible to an unauthorized party. According to Vivendi, the breach resulted in the names, addresses and financial information, such as credit or debit card numbers or bank account numbers, being compromised. Recently, Vivendi sent out data breach letters to all affected parties, informing them of the incident and what they can do to protect themselves from identity theft and other frauds.

Large multinational corporations like Vivendi handle the information of millions of consumers and should take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the information in their care. However, too often, these companies fail to take their data security obligations seriously, and hackers know this and take advantage of it. As discussed in a previous post, giant corporations aren’t always motivated by what is “right,” instead opting for whatever makes them the most money. Thus, one of consumers' only choices to hold companies accountable for a data breach is to pursue a data breach lawsuit against them.

What We Know About the Vivendi Ticketing Data Breach

The available information regarding the Vivendi Ticketing breach comes from the company’s filing with the Texas Attorney General’s office. However, because the breach was only very recently announced and Vivendi has not yet posted notice of the breach on its website, information about what led up to the incident is sparse.

Currently, we know that the Vivendi breach exposed consumers’ names, addresses and financial account information.

On October 24, 2022, Vivendi Ticketing sent out data breach letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the recent data security incident. While the total number of people affected by the breach remains unknown at this point, there are reportedly 92,074 victims in Texas alone. Given this information, it is likely that the number of affected parties is in the hundreds of thousands.
