Washington Increases Penalties For Consumer Protection Act Violations

The Washington Legislature passed the Consumer Protection Improvement Act, a bill requested by Washington AG Bob Ferguson, which will increase civil penalties for Consumer Protection Act violations.
The bill raises the maximum civil penalty from $2,000 to $7,500 per violation, and increases the maximum civil penalty for antitrust violations from $500,000 to $900,000 per violation.
The bill also creates a new, enhanced penalty for violations that target vulnerable communities such as seniors, immigrants, communities of color, individuals with disabilities, and veterans.
