New York City’s Local Law 144, which regulates the use of “automated employment decision tools” in hiring decisions, went into effect on January 1, 2023, and will be enforced effective April 15, 2023. Most commentators view Local Law 144 as a significant development in the regulation of tools deploying artificial intelligence (AI) to assist in the hiring process.
According to Chat-GPT, “New York City Local Law 144 is expected to have a significant impact on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in recruiting and hiring, as it sets standards for how AI can be used in the employment process. This law will likely lead to increased scrutiny of the use of AI in recruiting and hiring, as well as increased attention to ethical and responsible use of these tools. Additionally, it may prompt employers to re-evaluate their use of AI and potentially limit its use in certain areas.”
If your company is using or considering using an AI-powered tool in the hiring process, this panel will help you prepare for the implementation of NYC Local Law 144.
Panelists include Dave Schmidt, Ph.D., Principal Consultant of Employment & Litigation Services, DCI Consulting, and Epstein Becker Green attorneys Nathaniel Glasser and Robert O’Hara.
They will:
- Identify when the law applies and to what tools;
- Discuss the notice and disclosure requirements of the law;
- Explain how to conduct a bias audit of covered tools; and
- Discuss the changing regulatory environment, including how NYC Local Law 144 may inform future regulation on the federal, state, and local levels across the country.
