Carriers have an obligation to protect customer proprietary network information (CPNI) and personally identifiable information (PI). Several recent FCC consent decrees resolving breaches of CPNI and PI show the FCC will hold carriers accountable when consumer data is compromised, via the payment of civil penalties and specific commitments to strengthen privacy and data security practices.
In this webinar, Nelson Mullins partners John Heitmann, Jack Pringle, and Daniel Lumm will address the Communications Act’s requirements to protect CPNI and PI and identify several security and privacy controls that carriers may consider including in their own data governance programs. Among other topics, this webinar will discuss implementing the authentication requirements found in pending revisions to the FCC’s CPNI and Local Number Portability (LNP) Rules, (including secure methods to authenticate a customer in connection with a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) change or a number porting request), and the steps carriers should consider in order to satisfy their obligation to report breaches involving CPNI or PI.
Join us for insight into the elements of an effective security and privacy program.
