If you take a look at the audience of many industries such as technology, law, and architecture, odds are you’ll not see as much diversity as in other workforces. Yet we know that companies in the top quartile for gender-diverse executive suites were 15% more likely to generate above-average profitability compared to the bottom quartile of companies whose executive teams were predominantly white and male, says McKinsey. Yet many diverse workers shy away from these jobs, and many of those who do enter the profession leave jobs because of a lack of diversity or a hostile culture. So how do we address this problem? Two ways: mentoring young diverse talent so they can build a career in industries where they’re underrepresented, and making sure we create a safe space for them once they’re here. In this session, join Kelli McMillan and Kris Blackmon as they walk through how to:
- Talk to young, diverse people about the potential that your industry and organization holds
- Make sure you’re an ally for those people as they navigate building a career in these verticals
- Foster rising talent
- Create an inclusive work environment
- Be a safe space for those who are trying to make a home for themselves here
